The Beginning of Sight

After you have chosen your novel and read the first 1-2 chapters, post your thoughts about the following questions.

1. What is the title of your book?

2. What issues do you have with the characters?

3. What do you think the main character's downfall with be? Why do you think that?

4. What lens (besides your own) are you reading the novel through and how has that affected your understanding or thoughts already?

  1. (1st question)
The title is The Bean Trees

    (2nd question)
And the issues i have are i cant really find out who all of the characters are because there's a lot of "i" in the first chapter I've had to re-read it like 5x

    (3rd question)
I think frkm what i have read is that the downfall for her will be she ends up getting tied up in obstacles she wasn't prepared for and she's gonna have a rough time overcoming those obstacles and she gonna face challenge after challenge.

    (4th question)
I honestly dont understand this question because it's tell me to look for biblical allusions and connections to religious things but it's hard for me to do that cause my belief system and my religion is different so i dont know if what I'm looking for is the right answer

    1. I am reading Native Son by Richard Wright.

    2. The main character is Bigger Thomas, a 20 year old African American. Bigger is the man of the house yet he fails to play that role. He is in a position to take care of his mother and siblings, yet he'd rather lay around their one room apartment, instead of getting a job. He is more focused on hanging out with the "gang" than taking care of his family.

    3. Bigger's main problem is his selfishness. He's too focused on himself and how he can make a quick buck, while his family is suffering. He has a perfect job opportunity, yet he went with his gang to hit a lick instead of going to the interview.

    4. I have to read through a critical and structural lens. Trying to read the book bare is very difficult with the given context.

    (1st)
    The title is My Antonia.

    (2nd)
I don't have any issues with the characters, because they are all brief and strait forward when they talk.

    (3rd)
Jimmys downfall will be that he has to adjust to a whole different lifestyle than he knows about and try to understand his grandparents.

    (4th)
The lens I have to read through is psychoanalytical it's analysis the conscious and unconscious motives or the characters or author. This lens makes me think in a totally different way than I'm used to and it's kinda hard to understand.

(2)my issue is with Rachel why does she black out when she drinks and why doesn't she get over her ex-husband and find someone better.
    (3) her downfall will be not moving on with her life and just owing up for all the mistakes she had done.
    (4) my assigned lenses, no matter what kind of race you are people seem to do the oddest things and others might think the wrong way and be a suspect.

    1) The title of my book is The Curious incident of the dog in the nighttime.

    2) The issue I have with my character is I know that he is going to get trouble because he is going to go out and try to find out who killed the dog.

    3) The downfall is that he doesn’t
listen when they tell him not to do something. The reason I feel that because in the book he said that he was going to find who did it.

    4) My lens is religious I haven’t really got to that part in the book to were there is religious.
